Losing a loved one is indeed the worst thing that can ever happen in a person’s life. But what if you did not just lose one or two but four of your beloveds in an instant? This was how Edward Schmidt’s world came crashing down after his pregnant wife, Lindsey, and three kids lost their lives in a tragic car accident.
According to reports, the mother and sons, namely Owen, Weston, and Kaleb, were on their way to the Bible camp given that it was a holiday and that Lindsey was active in church.
However, their car met a speeding car when they came to a crossroad and the resulting crash instantly killed Lindsey and one-year-old Kaleb. A few days later, Owen and Weston both succumbed to their wounds that they acquired from the accident.
Investigation results show that the driver of the other vehicle involved the car accident, Sean Woulfe, was texting and speeding, which made him miss the stop sign at the intersection of Corning Road and Yates Avenue in Beecher and ended the life of the four victims.
As per the report in the Chicago Tribune, Sean is now facing 16 reckless driving charges on behalf of Lindsey’s husband Edward. In a joint news conference, James Glasgow, Will County State’s Attorney, was quoted saying:
“This is an unspeakable tragedy. I’ve been doing this for 37 years and, you know, because all of the victims were from one family, I don’t think Mike and I have ever seen anything like this.”
The attorney added that Edward has been very strong in dealing with this tragedy. He shared:
“He’s a god-fearing man and he has taken this as stoically as I can imagine any father could do, and he deserves tremendous credit for that. I’ve got five children. I don’t know if I could stand up here before you if this had happened to me.”
