Often we hear stories of the heartbreaking situations suffered by overseas Filipino workers while they’re working abroad. Sometimes, as this story proves, the heartache experienced by OFWs are found back home. An OFW mother flew abroad to provide for her son, only to be met with the child’s lifeless body upon her return. The two-year-old child died a tragic death after suffering extreme abuse and cruelty at the hands of his own relatives in Davao City.
The mother, identified as Erlinda Cagalitan, was understandably hysterical after seeing her son’s casket. According to a report published in GMA News, the victim named John Earl died after being beaten to death by his mother’s niece and her partner.
The suspects were identified as Sarah Jane Alcail and her partner Ronillo, who were already detained and will face murder charges. Before flying to Bahrain, the mother entrusted her son in Sarah and Ronillo’s care. In an interview, the grieving mother was quoted as saying:
“Nagsisisi ako dahil sa mga panahong nasasaktan siya wala ako sa tabi niya para matulungan siya. Sa murang edad niya hindi dapat nasasaktan ng ganun.”
Based on what we’ve gathered, the two-year-old child urinated on his bed, which angered the abusive relatives and prompted them to beat the child mercilessly. However, this is only the tip of the iceberg. The extent of the sadistic couple’s abuse was relayed on Facebook by a concerned citizen.
According to the anonymous informant’s accounts, the suspects allegedly beat the two-year-old child on a daily basis. Aside from this, they also fed the child with chili-flavored food. Read the rest of the post below:
